One Sick Girl: The Whole Story.

Miss Lexi started feeling poorly on Friday afternoon. Nana picked up Lincoln from school that day, so Lexi and I went to the zoo and had a grand old time. She felt great. Then, we got home and sat down for dinner. She ate a little, but not as much as I expected. When I picked her diaper only-clad body up from her high chair, I noticed she was burning up. I took her temperature and sure enough, 101.1. Awesome. So I gave her some ibuprofen and put her to bed. A few hours later, she still had fever. I was out of Tylenol and Scott was working all night on a fast-approaching deadline so I couldn't just hop up and go get her more meds. I had to give her a lukewarm bath to keep her fever down.
On Saturday, she felt much better. I thought she was well until bedtime came. Her fever was back. This time I had ibuprofen and acetaminophen so I felt like we would be good to go. Nope! Another rough night and another lukewarm bath to bring down her fever. I called the on-call doctor and scheduled an appointment for Sunday afternoon.
We went to the doctor and he thought Lexi might have strep. Nope. The test came back negative. Still, she had ulcers on her throat and her tonsils were red and swollen. We left the doc with no meds (since he decided it was just a virus) and went about our day.
On Sunday evening, I was getting Lexi ready for bed and realized the diaper that I was changing was the FIRST diaper I had changed ALL DAY! It took her the entire day to fill a diaper. I immediately called the doctor and was told to give Lexi one medicine dropper full of water every 5 minutes for an hour and then she could go to sleep. It worked perfectly and we got a great night of sleep.
Monday morning came and my girl was NOT happy to be woken up! She asked for her juice but wouldn't drink it. I tried a medicine dropper with water and she refused. I got her a milkshake, a slush from Sonic, about 70 (ok, maybe 7) different kinds of juice, water, etc, etc... She would drink nothing. By this point, she was looking and acting pretty pathetic. She was lethargic and losing some of her color. I texted our pediatrician (YES! He had given me his cell number!!! He's fantastic!) and we headed to his office.
At his office, he gave us a form that would allow us to go to the hospital and go straight up to pediatrics without having to go to the Emergency Room. We were certainly thankful for that!
Daddy came and met us at the hospital and we prepared for the NOT fun task of having Lexi hooked up to an IV. I am thankful that her Daddy is so strong for his children, because I couldn't handle her screams and tears and I had to leave the room.
The rest of the story is told with pictures:

This is all Miss Priss did for most of our hospital stay. She just relaxed (having very little energy for much else) in her bed and watched tv. We were blessed to have all of Lexi's grandparents come and visit her on Monday. Sugar and Nana both even stayed for a few hours to help Mommy out.
Poor sick girl was pretty pathetic looking!

She started looking a little better, but still refused to drink or eat anything.
(Notice the huge thing on her arm that kept her from pulling out her IV)
Later in the day Monday, she started feeling so good that she wanted to get down and play. This was hard to do since she couldn't move too far from her IV stand.

She still refused to drink, so we had to stay the night. In the morning, she woke up like a brand new person! She was THIRSTY!

After our doctor came to visit, Lexi's IV was unhooked to see if she could drink enough to keep herself hydrated without it. She was glad to get down and play without being tied up!
Some therapy dogs came around and visited us and Lexi LOVED it! There were about 6 dogs in all and Lexi got a little time with each dog.

The really cool part came when some guys from our church came to visit. Someone had called and put Lexi's name on our church prayer list (whoever you are- thank you so much!). I explained our situation to them and that Lexi still hadn't eaten and hadn't yet had enough to drink. She needed to drink what was left in her cup (about 6 ounces) before we could go home and she just didn't seem thirsty.
They asked if they could pray for her and of course I said yes. We bowed our heads and they began to ask for God's divine healing for sweet Lexi. During the middle of the prayer, Lexi picked up her cup. I didn't look at her again until after the prayer was over, but when I did, HER CUP WAS EMPTY! She then asked me if she could eat. WOW! God did that FAST! I joked with the guys and asked them why they didn't come sooner!
We were then able to get the discharge order from our doctor. Meanwhile, our lunch was delivered and Lexi ate 1/2 a grilled cheese sandwich and 3 chicken strips (more than she had eaten in the past few days combined!). Scott came to help us get all of our stuff together. We loaded up the car and finally headed home.
Now, my girl is taking a much-needed nap in her own bed.
Thank you all for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers. (And thanks to Lincoln's grandmothers fro getting him to and from school for a couple of days! We couldn't have done it without you!) We're so glad to be home!
Isn't God amazing???

Easter, Injuries, Etc.

We have been busy lately! (Ok, I think I say that on every blog post...)
Let's start with Easter:
This is the best picture I got of us that day. The sun was bright and my kids and husband don't exactly love having their picture taken.

Here is my sweet girl checking out Pops and Nana's cows.

I really love her Easter dress!

This picture cracks me up! Lexi did NOT want to sit still to have her photo taken and she CERTAINLY did not want her brother to touch her! But then look at Lincoln- he looks soo happy, like nothing's even wrong. So funny.

Hunting eggs! I didn't get a good picture of my boy hunting eggs because he is an egg hunting MANIAC! That boy means business and RUNS from egg to egg.

Here is my beautiful new accessory for the next two weeks! I have some soft tissue damage around my achilles tendon in my left foot. How it happened is a mystery. I am NOT an athlete, and I don't remember twisting my ankle or falling or anything. Notice how tight the top band is on my skinny little chicken leg? I've got my Daddy's chicken legs! He's 6'6" and has just about the skinniest legs ever. My husband actually calls me "N.E.C."- short for "Non-existent calves". Thanks baby!
Anyway, back to my injury... I will have to wear this boot for two weeks. Hopefully after two weeks, it will be healed and normal. If it's not, I will have to go see an orthopedist and have X-Rays and an MRI. We're praying that it's better with the use of the boot!
In other news, my daughter is insane. I have had to call Poison Control twice in the past week because she likes to eat/drink anything she can get her hands on! She is sly and tricky and FAST. If I slip up and take my eyes off her for even a minute, she's into something. Whew! She certainly is keeping me on my toes!
As I'm typing this, Lexi is standing on one leg and handing tiny pieces of torn-up paper to her Daddy. ...Never a dull moment!
Lincoln got glasses a couple of weeks ago. His vision is technically not that bad, but he has a pretty bad astigmatism in both eyes. He was really upset at first about the fact that he would have to get glasses, but as soon as he put them on his face he changed his mind about them.
